The first leg also ended in Pyramids’ favor with a 2-0 victory, which ended the tenure of coach José Rivero in September 2025.

Prior to the match, Zamalek’s goalless draw with Enppi presented Al Ahly with a chance to revive their title hopes, but the shock came at the hands of Pyramids.

Pyramids took the lead through Fiston Mayele in the 70th minute, and Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet appeared to equalize, but the goal was disallowed by VAR for offside.

In the 77th minute, Meli broke through on goal and scored Pyramids’ second goal, before Karim Hafez added a third from the penalty spot in the 92nd minute.

With this result, Al Ahly’s points tally remains at 44, a full 6 points behind league leaders Zamalek, ahead of their Cairo derby match next Friday.

As for Pyramids, their hopes of winning the title have increased, as they have reduced the gap with Zamalek to just 3 points. However, they will need Zamalek to drop points in two matches, given that head-to-head results (in case of a tie on points) favor Moataz Gamal’s team.
