After Semenyo… City close to securing another major winter signing

Manchester City are on the verge of completing another major signing in the current winter transfer window after acquiring Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth for €65 million last week.

The English club are clearly suffering from a defensive crisis due to injuries to Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol, forcing Pep Guardiola to request the signing of a new defender.

According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, City are very close to reaching an agreement with Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi to sign him this winter.

The England international’s contract with the London club expires at the end of the current season, and he is attracting interest from several clubs, but all want him on a free transfer next summer, except for City, who have already begun working to finalize the deal immediately to solve their defensive problems.

Crystal Palace are reportedly open to selling Guehi for a fee between £25 million and £35 million to recoup some money rather than lose him for free next summer.

Romano confirms that negotiations between Guehi and Manchester City are at a very advanced stage. The English club has presented the player with an exceptional offer that meets almost all of his requirements. Once they receive the green light from City, they will open talks with Crystal Palace to finalize the deal as quickly as possible.

Guehi had agreed to all terms with Liverpool last summer and even underwent a medical, before Oliver Glasner threatened to resign as Palace manager if the defender left, causing the deal to stall.

Since then, Guehi has been on the radar of many top clubs, most notably Real Madrid. Liverpool were also planning to try and sign him again next summer, especially given the potential departure of Ibrahima Konaté from the Reds.
