Dean Huijsen will miss Spain’s crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier against Turkey. Coach Luis de la Fuente decided to exclude him from the squad for the highly anticipated match.
Huijsen was also ruled out of the previous match against Georgia due to injury. It was initially thought he might be available for the Turkey game, but the Spanish Football Federation later announced he was suffering from muscle pain and had to leave Tuesday’s match.
Real Madrid fans were concerned about Huijsen’s condition, especially since he had already missed the previous international break and subsequent matches due to the same injury. A recurrence of the injury could mean it has worsened.
However, journalist José Luis Sánchez, who is close to Real Madrid, confirmed that Huijsen’s is not suffering from an injury, but rather pain requiring rest. This is why the Spanish national team decided to leave him out so he can return to action with his club once the international break is over.
Unless something changes, the 19-year-old defender will participate in Real Madrid’s training sessions on Thursday and Friday and will be available for Sunday’s match against Elche.
Real Madrid is facing a real crisis at center-back, with David Alaba unable to regain his form and Xabi Alonso unconvinced by Raúl Asensio. Therefore, Huijsen’s presence is crucial, and it’s good news for the coach that he’s ready for the upcoming busy period of important matches both domestically and in Europe.
