Egyptian football legend Mohamed Zidan denied the rumors about his work as a promoter for a German betting company in Egypt, stressing that these rumors are baseless.
The former Borussia Dortmund star said, “I never promote betting. I am Egyptian and Muslim and I know my religion well and I know right from wrong and I cannot do that.”
He added, “Some German companies contacted me 6 months ago to cooperate with a company that has a sports platform that promotes competitions, and they asked me to sign prizes, shirts and balls that people win by predicting the results of matches.”
According to Zidan, he was only working with the German company to sign for the winners of the match results predictions, and that he does not own this company or contribute to it obtaining a license to operate in Egypt.
Egyptian law criminalizes betting of all kinds, but recently this phenomenon has spread in a way that has caused the destruction of a large number of young people, increasing demands to take strict measures against it.
For this reason, and with the spread of news about Zidan, there have been increased demands for his investigation, knowing that if the charge is proven against him, he will be subject to imprisonment for a period of no less than 3 years.
