After 18 minutes, Harry Kane opened the scoring for the Bavarian giants from the penalty spot, but PSG responded quickly, with Khvica Kvaratskhelia equalizing with a stunning strike in the 25th minute.

João Neves then put the home side ahead for the first time with a header in the 32nd minute, but a moment of individual brilliance from Michael Ulreich leveled the score for Bayern in the 42nd minute.

Just when it seemed the first half would end in a draw, Paris Saint-Germain were awarded a controversial penalty in the fifth minute of stoppage time after Alphonso Davies was deemed to have handled the ball inside the area. After consulting VAR, referee Sandro Schärer awarded the penalty, which appeared harsh (the ball struck Davies’ leg before hitting his arm), and Ousmane Dembélé calmly converted it into a goal.

At the start of the second half, PSG surprised their visitors with two goals from Kvartschlia and Dembélé, but Vincent Kompany’s men refused to give up, and Dayot Upamecano pulled one back in the 66th minute.

Three minutes later, Luis Díaz finished with a perfectly placed shot into the far corner after a brilliant pass from Kean, ensuring Bayern remained in contention ahead of the second leg on Wednesday, May 6.
