Liverpool will be without one of their key players this season when they face Real Madrid next week in the Champions League, after he suffered a setback that will keep him sidelined for a relatively long period.
Right-back Jeremy Frimpong was forced off during the match against Eintracht Frankfurt two weeks ago with a hamstring injury. Extensive tests revealed a recurrence of the injury and a setback.
The Daily Mail reported that the Dutch international will need at least six weeks before he can return to action, meaning he will be out until early December.
Initially, Frimpong will miss the matches against Aston Villa, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, PSV Eindhoven, and West Ham. His return is expected against Sunderland on December 3rd.
Frimpong’s injury presents a real crisis, compounding manager Arne Slot’s woes. He is left with only one option at right-back, Conor Bradley, or he will have to rely on Dominik Szoboszlai and lose him in midfield.
It’s worth noting that the 24-year-old has made nine appearances this season, providing one assist but failing to score. Liverpool paid €40 million to acquire him from Bayer Leverkusen last summer.
