Zinedine Zidane is considering awarding Jeremy Jacquet his first senior call-up for the France national team following the young defender’s impressive start with Liverpool in the Premier League.
The new Les Bleus coaching staff is monitoring the 21-year-old closely ahead of the upcoming squad announcement, after he quickly established himself in the Reds’ starting lineup following his summer move from Rennes.
Jacquet started Liverpool’s opening four Premier League fixtures of the campaign, delivering a standout performance against Fulham where he made a crucial goal-line clearance in the 11th minute to help preserve a clean sheet in a goalless draw.
The French defender won 13 of his 14 total duels during the match—including a 100% success rate across five aerial duels—while completing 96% of his passes, offering further proof of his rapid adaptation to English football and composure in build-up play.
Liverpool secured Jacquet’s signature last February for an initial £55 million plus £5 million in add-ons, leaving him on loan at Rennes until the conclusion of the season before his official arrival at Anfield in July on a long-term contract.
Jacquet has represented France across youth levels up to the Under-21 squad, featuring in the 2024 UEFA European Under-19 Championship final and earning selection in the tournament’s Team of the Tournament, though he has yet to feature for the senior side.
Zidane is scheduled to announce his first national team squad on Friday, September 18, ahead of France’s UEFA Nations League opener away against Türkiye on September 25, followed by a fixture against Belgium three days later. These trips mark Zidane’s first official test since succeeding Didier Deschamps following the 2026 World Cup.
