Brazilian winger Juan Bezerra arrived in Cairo on Saturday evening following a weeks-long absence from Zamalek, clearing the path toward resolving his future with the White Knights.
The 23-year-old is expected to hold a meeting with club officials on Sunday, with strong indications suggesting his return is aimed at finalizing his departure rather than reintegrating into the squad.
The standoff began when Bezerra refused to join Zamalek’s pre-season preparations, insisting on a move to Emirati side Shabab Al Ahli. His absence saw him miss team training as well as the White Knights’ opening four matches of the current campaign.
Zamalek firmly refused to consider any bids prior to the player’s physical return to Cairo, pointing to his remaining three-year contract while enforcing internal financial penalties for his unauthorized absence.
Reports circulated in recent days claiming board approval for Bezerra’s sale in a deal valued at $5 million. Although the club has not released an official statement, sources indicate a strong inclination to accept his departure provided financial demands are met to alleviate current economic pressures.
Shabab Al Ahli raised their offer to $5 million, structured in installments over a maximum period of six months, with Zamalek receiving a significant portion upfront upon signing.
Zamalek are also insisting on a 20% sell-on clause while requiring the Emirati club to cover Ukrainian side FC Oleksandriya’s cut—estimated at $1 million—alongside solidarity contributions. Alternative reports suggest Zamalek are holding out for $6 million plus $1 million in add-ons, with 60% paid upfront in cash.
These conditions position Bezerra’s return as a procedural step toward completing the transfer, particularly with the UAE transfer window remaining open until September 28, allowing ample time to finalize terms.
Bezerra was among Zamalek’s standout performers last season, making 44 appearances across all competitions while scoring eight goals and delivering 12 assists, helping the club secure the Egyptian Premier League title and reach the CAF Confederation Cup final.
Zamalek originally acquired the winger from FC Oleksandriya in the summer of 2025 for €1.8 million plus €300,000 in add-ons. Selling him at the projected valuation promises significant profit and immediate liquidity to meet pressing financial obligations and debts.
