Hansi Flick, head coach of Barcelona, expressed his delight over the continuation of Egyptian forward Hamza Abdelkarim with the Catalan club following an agreement to extend his contract until June 2030.
Hamza is scheduled to sign his new contract on September 15 in the presence of Barcelona President Joan Laporta, after the 18-year-old successfully earned the coaching staff’s trust within just a few months.
Speaking about the Egyptian striker, Flick said: “He is a player who performed exceptionally well during pre-season and is competing with the rest of the squad for his position.”
The German manager added: “Hamza brings a new dimension to the team; he possesses a unique profile that we don’t otherwise have in our attack.”
He continued: “He is a valuable addition for the club’s future. We genuinely wanted him to be part of the team, which is why keeping him was so important.”
Hamza joined Barcelona from Al Ahly in February 2026 on loan before the Catalan club activated his permanent purchase clause over the summer.
The Egyptian international stood out by scoring a hat-trick for the Under-19 team in a 9-0 victory over Montecarlo, before scoring four goals with the first team to finish as Barcelona’s top scorer during pre-season.
His reward arrived with his official debut against Rayo Vallecano on August 31, while his contract extension reflects Barcelona’s commitment to giving him a genuine opportunity to develop and compete within the first-team setup.
