The noise surrounding the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium has returned to court after the neighborhood association representing affected local residents opened a new legal battle over sound limit exemptions granted during an American football (NFL) game.
This new lawsuit is not filed directly against Real Madrid, but rather challenges a decision by the Madrid City Council that permitted the use of loudspeakers and percussion instruments at levels exceeding standard regulations.
The dispute centers on the matchup between the Washington Commanders and the Miami Dolphins held on November 16, 2025, after the Department of Sustainability and Environmental Control issued an extraordinary authorization just three days prior to the game.
Residents argue that the exemption violates noise pollution regulations and have requested a judicial review of the authorization and the legal provisions cited from the Protection against Acoustic and Thermal Pollution Ordinance.
This legal move marks an extension of the feud that began following concerts held at the Bernabéu throughout 2024, when local residents lodged complaints regarding excessive decibel levels and their impact on daily life and health.
In May 2026, the Provincial Court of Madrid cleared “Real Madrid Estadio” and General Director José Ángel Sánchez of criminal liability, ruling that event promoters hold direct responsibility for maintaining sound limits.
However, another legal front regarding the validity of the stadium’s event licenses remains active after the Supreme Court rejected a procedural appeal by the club and remanded the file back to the lower court to examine the core of the dispute.
The conflict continues to threaten Real Madrid’s strategy to convert the Bernabéu into a year-round venue; while the club temporarily paused concerts to implement enhanced acoustic insulation, no final judicial ruling has fully resolved the challenges facing non-sporting events.
