Eintracht Frankfurt have entered talks to sign Spanish striker Joselu during the final hours of the transfer window, in a surprise move to reinforce their attack before the deadline.
The 36-year-old is available as a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Qatari side Al-Gharafa. While a final agreement has not been reached, Frankfurt currently stand as the most serious contender for his signature.
The German club faces competition from Union Berlin, while Lazio have made inquiries regarding his availability, alongside several options for Joselu to return to La Liga.
The move would mark a return to Frankfurt for Joselu following his loan spell from Hoffenheim during the 2013–2014 season, when he scored 9 goals in 24 Bundesliga appearances. Having also previously represented Hannover, he possesses extensive Bundesliga experience.
Joselu enjoyed the standout season of his career with Real Madrid in 2023–2024, scoring 18 goals in 49 appearances while winning La Liga, the UEFA Champions League, and the Supercopa de España. He etched his name into club history with a late brace against Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-final second leg.
Born in Stuttgart, the forward began his career at Celta Vigo and represented Real Madrid Castilla, Real Madrid, Deportivo La Coruña, Alavés, and Espanyol in Spain, alongside Stoke City and Newcastle United in England, as well as Hoffenheim, Frankfurt, and Hannover in Germany.
Al-Gharafa was Joselu’s most recent club following his departure from Real Madrid in 2024. After his contract expired last June without renewal, the UEFA European Championship winner with Spain is seeking a new destination that could bring him back to Frankfurt 12 years later.
