Enzo Fernández has reached a verbal agreement with Manchester City regarding personal terms, marking a major development that could pave the way for his departure from Chelsea in the final days of the summer transfer window.
Chelsea had previously set an informal deadline to receive a written offer valued at £120 million. However, that deadline passed without action from Man City, leading the London club to expect the player to stay before recent breakthroughs reopened the file.
Fabrizio Romano revealed that the potential transfer has not yet reached an agreement between the two clubs, as Manchester City have not submitted a formal bid. However, direct contact with Chelsea is expected shortly to determine whether a deal can be finalized.
Fernández makes no secret of his desire to leave Stamford Bridge and welcomes the prospect of reuniting with his former manager, Enzo Maresca. Chelsea maintain full control over the asking price, particularly given that the Argentine international’s contract runs through the summer of 2032.
Meanwhile, Xabi Alonso initially expressed his desire at the start of the summer to keep Fernández. However, he later declined to guarantee his stay and left the door open for his exit, emphasizing his need for players who possess the complete commitment and energy to represent Chelsea.
Fernández was not entirely absent from the opening match against Fulham, starting on the bench and coming on during the game, before being left out of the squad against Luton Town by decision of Alonso and the club. He could be sidelined again for the Brighton fixture while awaiting a formal offer from Manchester City.
