Egyptian international goalkeeper Mohamed Abou Gabal is set to embark on his first professional spell outside Egyptian football as he nears a summer transfer to Moroccan side Hassania Agadir.
According to Moroccan outlet Sport7, Abou Gabal has reached an agreement in principle with the Agadir-based club, with only final contract details remaining before the deal is officially signed.
Hassania Agadir’s management moved swiftly to replace starting goalkeeper Badreddine Abeid, whose contract recently expired, identifying the veteran stopper as the ideal candidate due to his extensive domestic and international experience.
Should the transfer materialize, the 37-year-old will become the first Egyptian goalkeeper in history to play in the Botola Pro, adding a landmark chapter to his career.
Abou Gabal began his career at ENPPI before representing Zamalek, Smouha, Bank El Ahly, and Modern Sport. Over his career, he has accumulated several titles, most notably the Egyptian Premier League, the Egypt Cup, and the CAF Confederation Cup.
On the international stage, Abou Gabal has earned 14 caps for Egypt. He became a standout star during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (held in early 2022), where his penalty shootout heroics and key saves propelled the Pharaohs to the final.
While negotiations remain in the preliminary agreement stage, the smooth progress of talks and Agadir’s pressing need for an experienced presence between the posts put Abou Gabal on the verge of his inaugural overseas adventure.
