Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman has openly expressed his concerns ahead of facing Morocco in the 2026 World Cup Round of 32, warning that the Atlas Lions possess incredible quality and will be far from an easy opponent.
The Clockwork Orange topped their group following victories over Sweden and Tunisia, alongside a draw against Japan. By securing first place, the Dutch team set up a thrilling encounter with Morocco—the runners-up of Group C—while successfully avoiding an early heavyweight clash against Brazil.
Speaking to the media after securing the top spot, Koeman struck a cautious tone:
“I’m not sure if we are the favorites to win against Morocco. We must prepare thoroughly because this is going to be a massive game.”
The Dutch tactician went on to praise his upcoming opponents, adding: “Morocco is a very good team; they have a lot of quality and can score goals with ease.”
When quizzed about the Netherlands’ potential path to the World Cup final, Koeman firmly refused to get ahead of himself. “I don’t think we are in a position to think about that right now. We are heading into our first real test, and that is exactly what we need to prepare for.”
He concluded by analyzing his team’s current form: “We clearly have strong attacking power, but there are some defensive errors we need to correct. We scored 10 goals in three matches, but conceding goals is also a part of football.”
Morocco advanced to the knockout stage after an impressive group phase, drawing 1-1 with Brazil, defeating Scotland 1-0, and wrapping up with a thrilling 4-2 victory over Haiti.
