Senegalese media outlets have reported that Sadio Mané directly intervened in coach Pape Thiaw’s tactical decisions during their 2026 World Cup clash against Norway.
The Teranga Lions found themselves trailing 3-1 just ten minutes into the second half. Mané was visibly furious with Senegal’s defensive display throughout the match.
According to recent reports, the Al-Nassr star led a player revolt, demanding the immediate substitution of Kalidou Koulibaly. The captain’s lackluster performance was heavily blamed for nearly all three of Norway’s goals.
While coach Thiaw initially had no intention of subbing off his team captain, the intense pressure from Mané and midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye ultimately forced him to give in to the players’ demands.
Senegal’s World Cup Knockout Hopes Hang by a Thread
In the 72nd minute, Koulibaly was replaced by Pape Matar Sarr. However, the tactical switch wasn’t enough to spark a full comeback for the African giants.
The match ended in a 3-2 defeat for Senegal, leaving their mission to reach the World Cup knockout stages for the third time in history highly complicated.
Current Standings: Senegal currently sits at the bottom of their group with zero points. However, they still hold a mathematical chance of qualification, provided they secure a high-scoring victory against Iraq in the final group stage match.
