During the final training session ahead of the clash with the Chivalrous (Jordan), Amoura sustained a thigh muscle injury, forcing him to cut his training short and undergo immediate medical examinations.

The latest medical reports indicate that the VfL Wolfsburg star will need at least two weeks of recovery before returning to action at the tournament, which is co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Consequently, Amoura is officially ruled out of the Jordan and Austria fixtures. Furthermore, he is highly likely to miss the Round of 32 clash should the “Desert Warriors” successfully advance past the group stage.

This injury compounds a challenging period for the 33-year-old forward, who has struggled to find the back of the net since February, following a tough club season where his team, Wolfsburg, suffered relegation from the German Bundesliga.

For the Algerian national team, Amoura’s last international goal dates back to November 13th, during a 3-1 friendly victory against Zimbabwe.

Algeria currently finds itself in a tight spot at the 2026 World Cup, having lost their opening match 3-0 to Argentina—courtesy of a Lionel Messi masterclass. The Desert Warriors now desperately need at least one victory from their remaining two matches to keep their knockout stage hopes alive.
