The Haitian national team has become the first team to be officially eliminated from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following a decisive 3-0 loss to Brazil in the second round of the group stage.
This defeat follows Haiti’s narrow 1-0 loss to Scotland in their opening match, cutting short their campaign in the tournament.
During the clash at the Philadelphia stadium, Brazil dominated the game. Matheus Cunha netted a brilliant brace with goals in the 23rd and 36th minutes, before Vinicius Junior sealed the victory with a third goal, leaving the Caribbean side with another painful defeat.
With this result, Haiti remains at the bottom of the group with zero points. Meanwhile, Brazil climbs to the top of the standings with 4 points, leading Morocco on goal difference. Scotland currently occupies third place with 3 points.
World Cup Regulations Note: FIFA rules state that head-to-head results are the primary tiebreaker when teams are level on points. Consequently, even if Haiti defeats Morocco in the final round and Scotland loses to Brazil, the European side will maintain their advantage due to their opening-match victory over Haiti.
This brings an official end to the Caribbean team’s World Cup adventure. Looking ahead, the final goal for coach Sébastien Migné’s squad will likely be to score a consolation goal or claim a historic point when they face Morocco in their final group fixture.
