Spanish journalist Miguel Serrano has revealed that Álvaro Arbeloa has urged Real Madrid’s new manager, José Mourinho, to offload one of Los Blancos’ most prominent players from last season.
The player in question is left-back Álvaro Carreras, whose relationship with Arbeloa has completely deteriorated in recent months, leaving him frozen out on the substitutes’ bench for the final ten matches of the season.
According to Serrano, Arbeloa included highly negative notes regarding Carreras in his final player evaluation report, explicitly labeling the defender as “unwanted in the dressing room.”
While Mourinho heavily values Arbeloa’s insight and would willingly sanction an immediate departure from the Santiago Bernabéu, the Real Madrid board holds a contrasting view, insisting that the player must be granted a second chance.
Financial Stakes and Mourinho’s Left-Back Shortlist
-
The Cost of Carreras: Real Madrid signed Carreras from Benfica last summer for a fee close to €50 million. Selling him now would represent a massive economic loss that Florentino Pérez’s administration is desperate to avoid.
-
The Cucurella Alternative: Regardless of Carreras’ future, Mourinho has requested a new left-back this summer. Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella has emerged as a top target on the table.
-
Versatile Targets: “The Special One” ideally prefers a full-back who can also slot in as a center-back. Consequently, Manchester City’s Josko Gvardiol and Riccardo Calafiori have emerged as prominent options, though Gvardiol is currently considering a contract extension offer from City, and negotiations for Calafiori remain highly complex.
