The 48-year-old Portuguese tactician recently concluded a successful five-year tenure with Premier League side Fulham, departing Craven Cottage last week upon the expiration of his contract.

Contract Details and Silva’s Career

Benfica confirmed they have “reached an agreement” with Silva. The former Fulham boss is expected to sign a contract keeping him at the Estádio da Luz until the end of the 2027-2028 season, with an option to extend for a further year (2028-2029).

Benfica marks another major chapter in Silva’s managerial career. Fulham was his fourth English club, following previous stints at:

  • Hull City

  • Watford

  • Everton

Jose Mourinho’s Return to Real Madrid

In a parallel announcement, Benfica confirmed Mourinho’s departure from the Portuguese capital. Real Madrid will reportedly pay Benfica a €15 million release clause to bring the 63-year-old manager back to the Santiago Bernabéu.

Mourinho took charge of Benfica last September, guiding the Eagles to a third-place finish in the Primeira Liga while remarkably maintaining an unbeaten record throughout the league campaign.

Flashback: During his iconic first stint with Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, the “Special One” clinched the La Liga title, the Copa del Rey, and the Supercopa de España.
