Football expert Marcel van der Kraan has stated that Arne Slot will be the absolute favorite to take over as the head coach of the Netherlands national team after the 2026 World Cup.
Van der Kraan, one of the elite analysts in Dutch football who shares a close relationship with Slot, revealed that the manager is still suffering from a major shock following his recent dismissal from Liverpool just a few days ago.
Speaking in a media interview, the Dutch journalist said: “I spoke with him briefly the day after the sacking, and I think he was still recovering from the huge shock caused by this decision.”
He continued: “I don’t think he felt bitter. He was still processing the surprise, knowing that he hadn’t won any silverware. In football, as you know, you are judged by trophies.”
Looking ahead to Slot’s post-Liverpool career, Van der Kraan added: “If Ronald Koeman steps down after the World Cup, there will be a vacancy at the Dutch national team. I think Arne Slot is fully prepared for that; he is probably the ideal candidate.”
The links between Slot and the Oranje job come just days after he was heavily linked with AC Milan. Rumors suggest he is currently the top candidate for the Rossoneri board to succeed Massimiliano Allegri this season.
Meanwhile, Ronald Koeman’s future with the Netherlands depends entirely on their performance in the upcoming World Cup, where the Dutch team has been drawn into a group alongside Sweden, Japan, and Tunisia.
