Spanish winger Ansu Fati has agreed to join AS Monaco on a permanent basis this summer, according to renowned transfer insider Fabrizio Romano. The 22-year-old, who spent last season on loan at the French club from Barcelona, will now make his stay official after Monaco trigger their purchase option for €11 million.
From Loan to Permanent: Fati’s Journey at Monaco
Fati arrived at Monaco on loan last summer and managed to rediscover much of his best form, though injuries continued to disrupt his progress at various points throughout the season. Despite his physical setbacks, he featured in 30 matches across all competitions, contributing an impressive 12 goals — one in the UEFA Champions League and the rest in Ligue 1.
Last month, Monaco made clear their intention to activate the purchase clause in his loan agreement. However, Fati remained hesitant for a period, weighing up whether to commit permanently to the Principality club or seek a return to La Liga. Ultimately, the Spanish international chose to accept Monaco’s offer and commit his future to the club for the next five years.
Sevilla Interest Ends as Fati Commits to Monaco
Fati had also attracted interest from Sevilla, reportedly backed by the club’s new owner Sergio Ramos, who was keen on bringing the former Barcelona academy product back to Spain. However, with Fati’s decision now confirmed, that possibility is firmly off the table.
It is worth noting that Monaco finished seventh in Ligue 1 last season, meaning Fati will not be participating in European competition in the upcoming campaign — a factor that likely weighed on his decision during the negotiation period.
