Portuguese superstar Rafael Leão has officially confirmed his desire to leave AC Milan during the current summer transfer window. Seeking a fresh chapter in his professional career, the dynamic winger believes his time at the San Siro has reached a natural conclusion.
This announcement comes after a challenging 2025-2026 season for the Rossoneri, where Leão contributed to 13 goals but started only 25 matches, as the team struggled to a fifth-place finish in Serie A, missing out on Champions League qualification.
Despite the recent dip in team performance, Leão’s legacy at Milan is undeniable. Since the 2019-2020 season, he has recorded a staggering 135 goal contributions, which is 60 more than any other Milan player in the same period.
Speaking to the media, Leão expressed his gratitude: “Personally, I have given everything to AC Milan. This club helped me grow and supported me through difficult times. I am proud to have left my mark on the history of this great institution.”
However, the 26-year-old is now looking toward the horizon. “Everyone has ambitions, and I dream of a new challenge in a different league. If that happens, I will be very happy and proud because I know I did my duty at Milan,” he added.
Currently focusing on the World Cup with Portugal, Leão stated that he will evaluate his options after the tournament to ensure he remains at the pinnacle of European football.
While Barcelona was previously linked with his signature, their recent acquisition of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United has closed that door.
This makes the Premier League the most likely destination for the Portuguese international. With AC Milan reportedly willing to accept offers between €70 million and €80 million, several English giants are expected to enter a bidding war for one of the most explosive talents in world football.
