Paris Saint-Germain has been crowned the 2026 UEFA Champions League winners following a thrilling victory over Arsenal in Budapest.
The match got off to a frantic start when Kai Havertz put the Gunners ahead in the 4th minute. However, PSG’s persistence paid off in the 64th minute when Ousmane Dembélé converted a penalty to level the score.
The French side nearly snatched a win in regulation time, but Bradley Barcola missed a golden one-on-one opportunity against David Raya.
Controversy in Extra Time and Penalty Heroics
As the game moved into extra time, tensions flared over a major refereeing decision. German referee Daniel Siebert turned down Arsenal’s appeals for a penalty after Noni Madueke appeared to be tripped by Nuno Mendes.
With neither side able to break the deadlock, the final was decided by a penalty shootout. PSG emerged victorious with a 4-3 win, capitalized by misses from Arsenal’s Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Magalhães.

PSG Joins the Elite: Back-to-Back Champions
With this victory, Paris Saint-Germain becomes only the second club in the modern Champions League era to successfully defend their title, following Real Madrid’s historic three-peat (2015-2018).
This marks PSG’s second European trophy in history, both coming in consecutive years. For manager Luis Enrique, this win cements his legacy as he claims his third Champions League title (one with Barcelona in 2015 and two with PSG).
