The administrative nightmare continues for Zamalek SC. FIFA has officially imposed a new transfer ban on the White Knights, covering the next three transfer windows. This latest ruling brings the total number of active legal cases against the club to a staggering 18 cases.
The Roots of the New Ban
According to Egyptian media reports, the latest sanction stems from unpaid dues owed to an assistant of former coach Yannick Ferreira, amounting to $85,000. Ferreira, who took charge at the start of the season, was sacked after just three months due to poor results. He has already won a separate legal battle against the club, with FIFA awarding him approximately $500,000.
A Mountain of Debt
The financial burden on the Cairo giants is mounting rapidly. The list of creditors now includes:
-
Coaching Staff: Assistants of Yannick Ferreira and former manager Jose Gomes.
-
Past Settlements: Outstanding dues for Swiss manager Christian Gross.
-
Total Liabilities: Zamalek must settle nearly $5.5 million in fines and dues before the end of May to obtain the necessary CAF license for African competitions next season.
Vanishing Hopes
Zamalek’s board had pinned their hopes on winning the CAF Confederation Cup. The $4 million prize money would have covered the bulk of these debts. However, after a heartbreaking defeat to USM Alger on penalties in the final, the club’s financial future remains uncertain and perilous.
