Recent reports from English media confirm that negotiations between Chelsea FC and Xabi Alonso are moving in a very positive direction. The London club is optimistic about reaching a final agreement soon to have the Spanish coach lead the “Blues” starting next season.
This move comes after Alonso’s departure from Real Madrid in mid-January, following which he took time to evaluate his next step carefully.

While Alonso’s name was heavily linked with Liverpool, the Reds decided to stick with Arne Slot.
This opened the door for Chelsea, as sources close to the 2024 Bundesliga champion confirm his enthusiasm for a Premier League challenge.

Alonso isn’t the only name on the list; Chelsea has also held talks with Andoni Iraola, Oliver Glasner, and Marco Silva. However, journalist Ben Jacobs indicates that Alonso has given a “preliminary” nod to the project.
The club plans to officially announce their new manager before the 2026 World Cup kicks off on June 11.
