According to Mundo Deportivo, Real Madrid board is deeply displeased with Kylian Mbappé’s recent media comments following the match against Real Oviedo. The club is seriously considering a disciplinary package that could include both a massive fine and a competitive suspension.
The controversy ignited when Mbappé, who started on the bench on Thursday, claimed that manager Álvaro Arbeloa told him he was the “fourth-choice” striker—a claim Arbeloa has since categorically denied.
Mbappé also alluded to the negative impact of Xabi Alonso’s dismissal, which was interpreted as a direct jab at Arbeloa’s leadership.
The Financial Penalty
Under the regulatory agreement between the Spanish Players’ Association (AFE) and La Liga, Real Madrid has the legal framework to impose severe fines for “malicious” or “harmful” statements:
-
The Formula: A deduction of 7% on the first €100,000 of the monthly salary, plus 4% on the remainder.
-
The Total: For a player with Mbappé’s wages, the fine is estimated at approximately €103,000.
-
Suspension: The club may also ban him from the final two matches of the season against Sevilla and Athletic Bilbao.
This internal crisis follows a historic week of discipline at Valdebebas, where Fede Valverde and Aurélien Tchouaméni were each fined a record €500,000 following a violent locker-room altercation.
