Barcelona’s management has made a final decision not to activate the purchase option in Marcus Rashford’s loan agreement from Manchester United.
This decision comes after the Catalan club considered the possibility of the England international staying at Camp Nou for an extended period, but concluded that signing him for €30 million would be too risky.
According to the newspaper “Sport,” Rashford’s high salary is one of the main reasons Barcelona prefers to pursue other options, especially since Barça wants to sign a striker and a defender, and needs to save money to do so.
In the same vein, Rashford has largely fallen out of favor with coach Hansi Flick, who has preferred to use Firmino López and Xavi on the left flank when Rafinha is injured, indicating that he is no longer Flick’s first choice on the wing.
Rashford will therefore return to Manchester United, and it seems unlikely he will remain at Old Trafford for much longer, whether Michael Carrick stays or the Red Devils appoint a new manager.
The 28-year-old is attracting significant interest from Tottenham and is open to the idea, but the whole thing will depend on how well Spurs manage to escape the relegation battle and stay in the Premier League next season.
