Real Madrid goalkeeper Javier Navarro played a pivotal role in the 4-2 penalty shootout victory, saving penalties from Brugge’s Naim Amenjay and Tien Koren.

This is the Spanish giants’ second title in the competition’s 12-year history, and it comes just five days after the first team’s elimination from the Champions League quarter-finals, a match in which Madrid fielded no players from their academy in the starting lineup against Bayern Munich.

Club president Florentino Pérez attended the match on Monday at the Lausanne-Sport stadium in Switzerland, along with UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin.

Real Madrid took the lead in the 23rd minute when striker Jacobo Ortega scored a brilliant backheel goal. Club Brugge equalized in the 64th minute when Koren delivered a low cross that Tobias Lund Jensen met and slotted home.

Real Madrid defender Diego Aguado converted the decisive penalty, beating Club Brugge goalkeeper Argus Vanden Dreske.

Real Madrid’s season is not entirely without silverware. While the first team may not have won any titles, the youth team has secured a valuable trophy.
