Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai expressed his and his family’s happiness in England, then sparked controversy when asked about the possibility of renewing his contract with the Reds. He emphasized that “it’s not in my hands” and that he will wait to see what happens in the coming months.
The Hungarian star’s contract with Liverpool runs until the summer of 2028, and he has been linked with several top clubs, most notably Real Madrid. Renewal negotiations between him and Liverpool have been ongoing for months without result.
When asked about his feelings and his future with Liverpool, Szoboszlai replied, “We still have a lot of games ahead of us, and I’m focused on that. As you know, my contract ends in 2028, so I’m ready to play every day and every week, and then we’ll see what happens.”
He added regarding renewing his contract with Liverpool, “Of course, I see myself here for the long term, but it’s no longer in my hands. I love being here, and I love the fans.”
“My family is happy. I’m very relaxed. We have five games left. After that, I’ll have a long break after the international break. Then we’ll see what happens,” he added.
English media outlets have reported that Szoboszlai is open to renewing his contract with Liverpool, but the biggest obstacle at the moment is his salary. The 25-year-old wants to become one of the highest-paid players in the Premier League, with a salary exceeding £300,000 per week.
Szoboszlai has been one of Liverpool’s standout players this season. In addition to playing in three different positions (right-back, central midfield, and right wing), he has scored 12 goals and provided 9 assists in 48 appearances across all competitions.
