Zamalek revealed in an official statement the details of their star player Juan Bezerra’s injury during their match against CR Belouizdad in the first leg of the 2026 CAF Confederation Cup semi-final last Friday.
The Brazilian player had scored the winning goal for Zamalek in Algeria, but left the field injured, causing considerable concern among the White Knights’ fans regarding their star player’s fitness ahead of the crucial remaining period of the season.
According to Zamalek, Bezerra felt slight hamstring strain and wanted to continue playing, but the coaching staff opted to substitute him to give him sufficient rest and prevent further injury.
Bezerra’s injury does not appear to be serious at first, although the player will undergo further medical tests on Saturday to determine the extent of the strain and the expected duration of his absence.
It is highly likely that Bezerra will be available for the second leg, scheduled for next Friday at Cairo International Stadium, but he will likely start on the bench.
Zamalek has no intention of risking the young player and pushing him through his injury, especially since the team is competing on two fronts and aims to win both the Confederation Cup and the league titles, requiring the contributions of their most prolific goal scorer this season.
Zamalek signed Bezerra for €2 million from Ukrainian club Oleksandriya, and since the start of the season, he has scored 7 goals and provided 10 assists across all competitions.
