Real Madrid has issued an official statement denying reports that it is searching for a new “sporting director.”
This comes after the club’s transfer policy has come under increasing scrutiny and criticism in recent seasons, following disappointing performances in La Liga. This has led to widespread reports suggesting the club is looking to bring in a new head of operations for this department.
Cadena SER radio had claimed that Real Madrid is restructuring its leadership hierarchy regarding sporting management and that an external agency is currently evaluating candidates for the sporting director position.
The current management structure at Los Blancos consists of Santiago Solari, who was once designated sporting director but is now considered an advisor on transfer matters. General Manager José Ángel Sánchez and Chief Scout Juni Calvat are also prominent figures in decision-making, although the final say rests with President Florentino Pérez.
Real Madrid issued a statement on Friday in response to these rumors, categorically denying them and confirming that the administrative structure would remain unchanged until further notice.
The entire affair is seen as a continuation of the power struggle within the Santiago Bernabéu between Ángel Sánchez and Moroccan Anas Laghrari, Florentino Pérez’s right-hand man and a potential successor as president of the Moroccan club.
