Real Madrid player Thiago Pitarch has put an end to the speculation surrounding which national team he will represent, clearly stating his desire to wear the Spanish jersey.
Pitarch, who was promoted to Real Madrid’s first team this season by coach Álvaro Arbeloa, is of Moroccan descent, which intensified the competition between Spain and the Atlas Lions for his signature in recent months.
Reports on the matter varied. Some suggested that Brahim Díaz, the Moroccan and Real Madrid star, was playing a significant role in convincing the 18-year-old to represent Mohamed Ouahabi’s squad, while others insisted that Pitarch has strong cultural and emotional ties to Spain and wants nothing more than to play for “La Roja.”
Pitarch announces he will represent Spain and rejects Morocco
Pitarch’s first step in confirming his Spanish identity was joining the Spanish under-19 team during the current March international break.
Pitarch has now made further statements confirming that he only wants to represent the Spanish national team in the future, ruling out the possibility of playing for Morocco.
The Real Madrid star said, “My dream is to make my debut with the national team and win titles if possible. I’m working hard because I want to reach the top step by step.”
He added, “I’m very happy. I’m living a dream with my club and now with the national team. I’ve fought for this every day I’ve gone to training and played matches, and now I’m achieving it.”

Pitarch is also happy at Real Madrid
Pitarch also spoke about his current time at Real Madrid, how happy he is to play for the capital club, and the support he receives from the club and his family.
Thiago said, “I try not to think about it too much. We’re a very humble family, and we can’t quite believe what’s happening.”
He continued, “My friends are the ones who are most impressed, but they’re close to me and always support me. They treat me like any other person. I train, then I go to class, and I train again the next day. It’s the same routine every day.”
He added, “It feels like I’m the star, but I want to be just another player. I don’t want to be more important than any of my teammates. That’s how I see things. Many people have congratulated me, and there’s a very good group in this national team. We laugh and joke a lot, and that shows on the pitch.”
Pitarch is wanted both inside and outside Spain
Pitarch’s current contract with Real Madrid is long-term, but a separation between the two parties next summer is likely given the significant interest the player has received from several clubs both within and outside La Liga.
Pitarch wants to guarantee regular playing time, and Real Madrid’s management is considering selling him to another club with a buy-back clause, similar to what happened with the transfers of Nico Paz and the Italian Como.
In this case, Real Madrid would earn some money, and Pitarsch would be guaranteed regular playing time in one of Europe’s top five leagues. After two years, or perhaps less, Florentino Pérez’s management could bring him back, ready to be a regular starter in the Merengues’ midfield.
However, the option of Thiago staying with Real Madrid, especially if Alvaro Arbeloa remains in his position, is highly likely, as the player enjoys great confidence from the coach since they worked together in the youth sectors at Valdebebas.
