Zamalek secured a place in the semi-finals of the 2026 CAF Confederation Cup after overcoming Otoho 3-2 on aggregate.
Zamalek had drawn 1-1 in the first leg in Congo-Brazzaville, and today, in the second leg of the quarter-final at Cairo International Stadium, they won 2-1.
Hossam Abdel-Maguid scored Zamalek’s first goal in the 17th minute, followed by Oday Dabbagh’s second goal in the 24th minute.
The match seemed to be going Zamalek’s way until Grace Mavungu pulled one back for Otoho in the 83rd minute, after which goalkeeper Mohamed Sobhi was sent off.
With coach Moataz Gamal having already used all five substitutions, he was forced to bring on striker Seifeddine Jaziri as goalkeeper for the final 10 minutes of the match.
Fortunately, the Tunisian goalkeeper was rarely tested and kept a clean sheet, securing Zamalek’s qualification for the semi-finals.
Zamalek will face Algeria’s CR Belouizdad in the semi-finals, while the other semi-final pairing is yet to be determined.
It’s worth noting that Zamalek is the only Egyptian club remaining in African competitions after Al Ahly and Pyramids were eliminated from the CAF Champions League, and Al Masry from the CAF Confederation Cup.
