Fernandez hints at Chelsea exit after PSG debacle

Enzo Fernandez cast doubt on his future at Chelsea just minutes after the Blues’ Champions League exit at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.

Goals from Kvishka Vravetskhelya, Bradley Barcola, and Seny Maillo secured a 3-0 victory for PSG at Stamford Bridge, leaving the London club with an 8-2 aggregate defeat – equalling their worst-ever European loss.

Fernandez, Chelsea’s vice-captain, led the team in the absence of the injured Reece James against PSG.

The 25-year-old, who joined from Benfica in a £106 million deal in February 2023, is under contract until 2032.

But when asked if he could guarantee he would stay at Chelsea next season, Fernandes said: “I don’t know. My focus is here at the moment. We have eight Premier League games to play and the FA Cup. After that, there’s the World Cup coming up, so we’ll see what happens after that.”

In response, Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior said: “Firstly, I haven’t seen those comments. It’s difficult for me to talk about speculation after a game, and I need to focus on the more important things, which is making sure we get a positive result against Everton on Saturday.”

Enzo Fernandez is attracting interest from a number of clubs, most recently Real Madrid, but given his long-term contract with Chelsea, his departure would require a substantial transfer fee.
