Egyptian media outlets have confirmed that Real Oviedo star Haitham Hassan will wear the Egyptian national team jersey for the first time during the upcoming international break.
Haitham Hassan holds Tunisian and French citizenship, in addition to his Egyptian heritage through his father, which prompted the Egyptian Football Association to work for months to convince him to represent the Pharaohs.
Coach Hossam Hassan wanted to include Haitham in Egypt’s squad last October, but delays in the official paperwork prevented this, before the player initially rejected the idea of playing in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
After extensive discussions between the Egyptian FA and Haitham Hassan, including a direct phone call between him and Hossam Hassan, the player became convinced that representing Egypt is the best option for his career, especially after being briefed on the country’s upcoming sporting project.
It is assumed that the necessary government paperwork has been completed, and Haitham Hassan now holds Egyptian citizenship. The Egyptian FA has already sent a letter to Real Oviedo requesting the player’s release during the upcoming international break.
There is no doubt that the skillful player will be a great addition to Egypt on the right wing, and he is expected to be at the top of the Pharaohs’ squad for the World Cup, forming a formidable attacking trio with Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush.
Haitham Hassan has made 27 appearances for Real Oviedo across all competitions this season, providing three assists.
