Barcelona may soon face a crucial decision regarding one of their young defenders. According to recent reports from Mundo Deportivo, Manchester United have set their sights on Alejandro Balde.
This interest comes at a time when Balde is not at his best. The left-back is experiencing inconsistent form during a difficult period for Barcelona as a whole. His struggles were evident in the Copa del Rey semi-final, where most of Atletico Madrid’s dangerous attacks originated from his flank.
Due to his dip in form, coach Hansi Flick opted to start Gerard Martin at left-back, leaving Balde on the bench for the recent match against Girona.
Reports indicate that Manchester United are considering making an official offer for the Barcelona defender, and it is believed that the Red Devils are prepared to test Barcelona’s resolve with a bid close to €40 million.
However, Barcelona remains in a strong negotiating position, as Balde’s contract runs until 2028 and includes a hefty €1 billion release clause.
From a sporting perspective, the young full-back has made 32 appearances this season, contributing three assists. Currently, Balde represents the type of homegrown talent Barcelona is looking to build around. However, if a substantial offer arrives and his form continues to be inconsistent, the club may find itself forced to reconsider its options.
