Al Ahly qualified for the 2026 CAF Champions League quarterfinals as group winners after a goalless draw against FAR Rabat in the final group stage match.
The Red Devils were the first to secure qualification after another goalless draw, this time against JS Kabylie in Algeria in the penultimate round, leaving the top spot still up for grabs depending on the outcome of the eighth round.
Al Ahly’s goalless draw against FAR Rabat guaranteed them first place in their group with 10 points, while the Moroccan club finished second with 9 points. Young Africans were eliminated, finishing third with 8 points.
Therefore, Al Ahly awaits one of the runners-up from the group stage (excluding FAR Rabat) in the quarterfinals.
Al Ahly’s opponent will be one of three teams: RS Berkane of Morocco, Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, or Espérance Sportive de Tunis of Tunisia.
There is no doubt that Al Ahly faces a tough task in the quarterfinals, considering that the three clubs are among the strongest in Africa. RS Berkane are the reigning Confederation Cup champions, Mamelodi Sundowns were Champions League runners-up, and Espérance Sportive de Tunis boasts a rich and illustrious history.
The draw for the CAF Champions League quarterfinals will take place next Tuesday at the Egyptian Football Association headquarters at 1:00 PM Cairo time.
