Staying in Europe… Raheem Sterling joins a renowned club

Feyenoord have officially announced the signing of Raheem Sterling on a free transfer, with a contract extending until the end of the current season.

Sterling had mutually terminated his contract with Chelsea at the end of January after falling out of favor with the club and failing to make a single appearance since the start of the season.

The England international is keen to convince coach Thomas Tuchel to include him in England’s squad for the 2026 World Cup, and thus he was determined to find a club in Europe that would offer him regular playing time.

Ultimately, the 31-year-old settled on a move to Feyenoord, managed by Dutch and Premier League legend Robin van Persie.

It appears that Sterling has taken a significant pay cut. After earning £325,000 per week at Chelsea, his current salary is expected to be no more than £50,000, if not less.

It is worth noting that Feyenoord, with Van Persie, occupies second place in the Dutch league standings with 42 points, and has been eliminated from the Europa League at the league stage.
