Harry Kane has defended his chances of winning the Ballon d’Or following the best goalscoring season of his career, while leaving the final verdict to the voters and declining to make direct comparisons with fellow contenders.
Speaking in an interview with Marca, the Bayern Munich striker reflected on a campaign that combined extraordinary individual statistics with domestic silverware, alongside leading England to a bronze medal at the FIFA World Cup.
“It is complicated, as I have never liked talking about myself too much,” Kane stated. “All I can say is that last season was incredible on both an individual and collective level—by far the best season of my life.”
He added: “Scoring 73 goals, the second-highest total in history, speaks for itself. I feel immensely proud and can only thank my teammates and everyone who helped me achieve that.”
Regarding his award prospects, he continued: “The Ballon d’Or is not in my hands; it depends on those who vote. From my perspective, last season is in the past, and my focus now is on the new season and what I can deliver.”
Kane concluded: “I know the conversation around the Ballon d’Or will continue until October because it is a prestigious award, but I am excited to see what I can accomplish this season.”
