Tottenham’s management has decided to dismiss manager Thomas Frank following a string of poor results, culminating in Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat to Newcastle in the Premier League.
The Danish coach had told the media after the Newcastle loss that he was 100% confident of remaining in his position, despite the boos and chants from Tottenham fans demanding his immediate dismissal to salvage the London club’s season.
Ultimately, however, the Spurs board withdrew their support for Frank and decided to sack him after just seven months in charge. He had joined the London rivals from Brentford, replacing the sacked Australian manager Ange Postecoglou, with the hope of taking the next step in Tottenham’s trophy-winning project.
Frank Lampard leaves Tottenham in 16th place in the Premier League with just 29 points from a possible 26, only five points above the relegation zone.
The defeat to Newcastle was Tottenham’s seventh home loss in the Premier League this season, and they have managed just two wins in their last 13 home matches in London in the English competition.
His only achievement with Tottenham was reaching the Champions League round of 16 by finishing fourth in the league. At the start of the season, the London club lost to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup after leading 2-0 at halftime.
The identity of Lampard’s successor at Tottenham remains unknown, while Spurs fans have begun chanting the name of legendary manager Mauricio Pochettino. However, bringing the Argentine back to the British capital seems highly unlikely at present, given his current role managing the US national team with the 2026 World Cup just four months away.
