Chelsea could have secured a victory against Leeds United on Tuesday, were it not for a bizarre miss by Cole Palmer in the dying moments.
Chelsea took the lead through João Pedro in the 24th minute, and then Palmer doubled their advantage in the 58th minute, before Leeds fought back with goals from Lukas Nmecha and Noah Okafor.
As the match drew to a close at Stamford Bridge, Caicedo delivered a perfect cross to Palmer, which eluded the Leeds goalkeeper and left the Englishman with an open goal.
Incredibly, Palmer volleyed the ball wide, much to the dismay of manager Liam Rosenior.
Palmer had scored a hat-trick in the previous match against Wolverhampton Wanderers, making him Chelsea’s all-time leading hat-trick scorer with four.
Chelsea squandered two valuable points in their bid to break into the Premier League’s top four, especially as Manchester United’s perfect start under Michael Carrick came to an end with a 1-1 draw against West Ham.
