Erling Haaland finally broke his Anfield curse with Manchester City, finding the net against Liverpool in Sunday’s Premier League match.
Since joining City in 2012, Haaland had failed to score against Liverpool at Anfield, although he had previously scored against the Reds at their home ground while playing for Red Bull Salzburg.
With City, Haaland had only scored three goals against Liverpool: two in the Premier League and one in the Carabao Cup, all at the Etihad Stadium. Now, he adds a fourth, finally at Anfield.
Haaland converted a penalty in the 93rd minute, beating Alisson Becker and securing a crucial victory for City in their pursuit of the Premier League title this season.
Meanwhile, this was Haaland’s first goal for City after a three-match Premier League drought, having failed to find the net against Manchester United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Tottenham Hotspur.
Haaland currently leads the Premier League scoring charts with 20 goals in 25 appearances. The 24-year-old has also scored seven Champions League goals for City this season, bringing his total goal contributions to 33 (28 goals and six assists).
