A major argument erupted between Gavi and Barcelona coach Hansi Flick recently, after the German was accused of being the reason for Dro Fernandez’s departure to Paris Saint-Germain.
It is well known that Gavi and Dro have a very close relationship, and they share the same agent. The 21-year-old had hoped his friend would stay at Camp Nou, considering him one of the most promising Spanish talents of all time.
The newspaper “Sport” revealed that Gavi met with Flick after a tense training session following the announcement of Drew’s departure. The player, known for his impulsiveness and strong personality, confronted the coach, indicating that he was the one who forced the 18-year-old to leave Barça.
Gavi explained to Flick that if Dro’s playing time had been managed better and he had been given more opportunities, the player would have stayed at Barcelona and rejected all the other offers from Paris Saint-Germain.
Despite the anger directed at Dro, this altercation occurred between the coach and Gavi, and the player didn’t hesitate to express his dissatisfaction with the way his teammate’s time at Barcelona had ended. He felt that the management and Flick hadn’t done enough to keep him.
It’s worth noting that Barcelona earned €8.5 million from the sale of Dro Fernandez to Paris Saint-Germain, after Nasser Al-Khelaifi decided to increase the transfer fee beyond the €6 million release clause as a gesture of goodwill towards the Barcelona management.
