Manchester United’s Patrick Dorgou is expected to be out for approximately 10 weeks with a hamstring injury.
The 21-year-old sustained the injury while chasing a long ball during the second half of United’s 3-2 victory over league leaders Arsenal last Sunday, a match in which he scored a stunning goal with a volley from outside the penalty area.
This injury is a significant setback for Manchester United. Having primarily been deployed as a wing-back under former manager Ruben Amorim, Dorgou has been utilized as a left winger in a 4-2-3-1 formation under interim manager Michael Carrick. He has started and scored in consecutive wins against Manchester City and Arsenal.
If his absence extends to ten weeks, the team will be without Dorgou for the next eight matches, making his return anticipated after the international break in March, specifically for United’s match against Leeds United on April 11.
The Danish international signed for Manchester United on February 2 of last year, joining from Italian club Lecce for £25 million. He has made 44 appearances, scoring three goals and providing three assists.
Dorgou thus joins fellow defender Matthijs de Ligt on the injury list, with the latter having missed the last 11 matches due to a back problem sustained in early December.
