Barcelona’s new offer to permanently sign Marcus Rashford has shocked Manchester United officials in recent hours, primarily due to the transfer fee and the payment terms.
The Catalan club’s management has decided to activate the purchase option in Rashford’s contract after he established himself as a key player in Hansi Flick’s squad this season.
Barcelona wants to pay just €22 million to acquire the England international. Their offer, which recently reached Old Trafford, stipulates that €18 million will be a fixed fee, payable over three years.
The remaining €4 million will be in the form of performance-related bonuses based on the player’s appearances, individual statistics, and team achievements with Barcelona in the coming years.
While it’s true that United’s management wants to offload Rashford, and even after Ruben Amorim’s departure, the player is unlikely to return to the Red Devils, they are unwilling to accept such a low price considering his performances this season at Barcelona.
Manchester United are adamant about receiving the full €30 million fee stipulated in the loan agreement to activate the purchase option, payable in one or two installments at most, not in a long-term payment plan as Joan Laporta’s administration is considering.
Discussions between the two parties will continue until the end of the season, and both sides hope to reach a common ground to resolve this matter, especially given the player’s clear desire to remain with Barcelona and not transfer to any other club next season.
