Tensions have escalated between Enzo Maresca and Chelsea’s owners, and the Italian manager is expected to be sacked soon, according to The Telegraph.
There is growing dissatisfaction within the board regarding Chelsea’s recent results, with no signs that Maresca’s team is getting back on track.
Since their 3-0 victory over Barcelona on November 25th, Chelsea have played nine matches, winning only two, losing three, and drawing four.
Chelsea have practically lost their chance of winning the Premier League title, having dropped to fifth place with 30 points, a full 15 points behind leaders Arsenal.
The Chelsea board is unhappy with the team’s performance and some of Maresca’s choices, and is putting pressure on him to turn things around, which has ultimately led to a significant strain in the relationship between the two parties.
According to The Telegraph, Maresca is at risk of being sacked before the end of the season if results don’t improve, and the likelihood of his dismissal next summer is increasing regardless due to his strained relationship with the board.
Maresca was the manager who brought Chelsea back to winning ways after a long absence, leading the Blues to victory in the 2015 FIFA Club World Cup.
Recently, it was reported that Manchester City were interested in signing Maresca to succeed Pep Guardiola next season, before the Italian confirmed that he wants to stay with Chelsea until the end of his contract in 2028.
