Officially… Ahmed Abdel Raouf resigns as Zamalek coach

Ahmed Abdel Raouf announced his resignation from his position as Zamalek’s coach due to the difficult circumstances surrounding the club recently.

Abdel Raouf took over as Zamalek’s coach last November, succeeding the dismissed Belgian coach Yannick Ferrera. Initially announced as an interim coach, he was later appointed permanently after the club failed to secure a foreign coach due to complex financial difficulties.

After approximately two months in charge, Abdel Raouf faced considerable criticism, coupled with pressure on the players due to unpaid wages, ultimately leading to his resignation.

In his announcement to the fans, the coach stated, “I am leaving my position at the club, but Zamalek will always remain in my heart and mind. It is a great institution that I was honored to work for and serve.”

Under Ahmed Abdel Raouf’s leadership, Zamalek played seven matches across various competitions, achieving three wins, three draws, and one loss. Tarek Mostafa remains the frontrunner to succeed Abdel Raouf as Zamalek’s manager, having left his post at Libyan club Al-Ahly Benghazi a few days ago. He enjoys considerable support within the board, despite sporting director John Edward’s opposition to the idea.
