Sergio Ramos is close to finalizing his next destination, having entered into intensive negotiations with Nice for a free transfer during the upcoming winter transfer window.
The 39-year-old left Monterrey at the end of his contract this year, driven by his desire to return to European football and his hope of convincing coach Luis de la Fuente to include him in Spain’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.
According to French press reports, Nice is in advanced negotiations with Ramos’ agent, and an agreement between the two parties is imminent. The deal would see the player wear the French jersey for six months, with an option to extend for another year by mutual consent.
Nice is currently experiencing a very difficult period, sitting in 13th place in Ligue 1 with 17 points. They are looking to turn things around after a major fan backlash against the management in recent times.
Nice sacked their coach Franck Eze a few days ago following a dismal run of nine consecutive defeats, a record low for the club. This will be Ramos’ second stint in French football, having previously played for Paris Saint-Germain for two seasons after leaving Real Madrid in 2021.
