The Spanish newspaper AS reported that Thiago Silva’s recent move to Europe at the age of 41 has inspired Sergio Ramos, reinforcing his earlier decision to continue playing football.
Ramos will be without a club when his contract with Monterrey expires in 2026. The 40-year-old has announced his intention to return to European football after a year in the Mexican league.
Ramos’s desire coincides with Thiago Silva’s situation. Silva mutually terminated his contract with Fluminense and then signed a new deal with Porto, returning to the Portuguese giants after his first stint with them 20 years ago. His contract runs until the end of the current season with an option to extend for another year.
Ramos believes that Silva has proven to everyone that age is just a number and that he’s willing to do anything to stay at the top, even sacrificing money and accepting a modest salary at Porto, all for the ultimate goal of playing in the 2026 World Cup with Brazil.
Ramos intends to make the same sacrifice if necessary and take a pay cut just to play in Europe, hoping to convince coach Luis de la Fuente to include him in Spain’s squad for the upcoming World Cup.
Ramos doesn’t intend to wait long and will decide on his next destination soon so he can quickly join his new team, which he hopes will be one of the top five European leagues.
It’s worth noting that AC Milan is the club most interested in signing the Real Madrid legend, who has also received offers from the Turkish league, with the possibility of a third stint at his former club, Sevilla.
