Neymar, the Santos and Brazilian national team star, underwent knee surgery following the end of the Brazilian football season.
The former Barcelona star helped Santos avoid relegation despite suffering from a knee problem in the final weeks of the league. He played through the pain and opted to postpone surgery.
Neymar underwent arthroscopic surgery, which is not expected to keep him out of action for an extended period, meaning his World Cup dreams remain alive.
Santos confirmed the success of the surgery in an official statement: “An arthroscopic procedure was performed to treat a tear in the medial meniscus. The surgery was successful, and the athlete is doing well.”
The statement continued, “Neymar Jr. will be discharged from the hospital early this afternoon and will begin his rehabilitation under the supervision of his physiotherapist, Rafael Martini.”
Neymar is expected to be sidelined for approximately a month, meaning he should return at the end of January or the beginning of February, according to ESPN.
Neymar’s contract with Santos expires at the end of this month, and he is expected to sign a six-month extension with the Brazilian club to secure regular playing time and hopefully convince Carlo Ancelotti to include him in Brazil’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.
